Pick Your Poison: Monday 3-28-16

Hope your Easter weekend was wonderful. Mine was spent with family and friends, which is always nice. Pick Your Poison: Wednesday 3-23-16

To follow up on my intro from yesterday, this morning the powers that be announced the lineup for Lollapalooza 2016. This year they’re celebrating the 25th anniversary of the festival, and expanding it to four days as a result. So who’s performing? There are more than 170 artists total, but some of the notables include Radiohead, LCD Soundsystem, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lana Del Rey, J. Cole, Disclosure, Jane’s Addiction, Haim, M83, Grimes, Leon Bridges, The Last Shadow Puppets, Big Grams, Local Natives, Foals, The Arcs, Kurt Vile, Silversun Pickups, Frightened Rabbit and many more. My very basic feelings are that this would make a spectacular lineup for a three day festival, but starts to get spread a bit thin when spread out to four days. Not that it particularly matters to me, as I’ll be in Grant Park for the festival once again this year, marking my 12th year in a row having never missed a single day of the festival. It’s completely sold out, by the way, from four day passes all the way through single days. If you’re looking for tickets, I’m sure there are plenty of resellers who’d be happy to help you out for an additional fee. If you’re interested in checking out the full Lollapalooza lineup, feel free to click that link. Now onto today’s pressing business, which is a fresh edition of Pick Your Poison. Don’t miss downloads in this set from Aesop Rock, Ghost King, Peaking Lights (ft. Chloe Sevigny) and Swoop Swoop. In the Soundcloud section after the jump, stream songs from Anna of the North, Antwon, Cellars, children of pop, The Field, Glass Gang, Lil Silva, Morly, Mt. Wolf, Music Band and Whitney.

Pick Your Poison: Tuesday 3-22-16

So the Lollapalooza lineup is released tomorrow morning. If you’ve been a reader of this site for a reasonable period of time, or at the very least follow me on Twitter, you understand why the lineup for this festival is a pretty big deal for me. As it is the biggest music festival in Chicago and the third biggest in the U.S., there’s a lot of interest in who’s performing each year. I do my best to dig up some of that information in advance in part as a service but also because it can be a whole lot of fun. With Lollapalooza expanding to four days this year in celebration of their 25th anniversary, there’s a lot more action and excitement going on. More on that tomorrow. In the meantime, here’s a fresh edition of Pick Your Poison for your ears to enjoy. Will any of these artists be on the Lollapalooza lineup? Anything’s possible. Don’t miss downloads in this set from Foreign Diplomats, Milan, Tryptamines and Wheez-ie. In the Soundcloud section after the jump, stream songs from Chino Amobi, Gillian, HEIDEMANN, Jay Arner, Lower Spectrum, Puce Mary, Ronnie Heart, Sasha Go Hard, St. Tropez (covering Wild Belle), Willis Earl Beal and WRITER.

Another year, and another SXSW is in the books. As I mentioned last week, I didn’t make it to Austin (again) this year, but the convergence of all the music industry folks caused my inbox to be a little light in terms of fresh music delivery. It was kind of a relief to not have 300+ emails a day jamming up my inbox telling me about showcases I wasn’t attending though, which was the case the week before last. Anyways, we’re back to normal now, and I’m pleased to share with you a piping hot collection of new music for you. Please enjoy downloads from Boogie (ft. Tink), Erin Costelo, The March Divide and Verge Collection. In the Soundcloud section after the jump, stream songs from AnT, Djustin, Foster Care, Har Mar Superstar, Jayaire Woods, Kal Marks, Kaytranada (ft. New week, new edition of Pick Your Poison. Things are going to get a little spotty this week, as the well of new music gets dried up with everyone at SXSW. While I’d love to be there myself, circumstances have once again prevented me from making the annual sojourn to Austin. Every year for the last couple I’ve promised I’d get back there “next year,” but it hasn’t happened quite yet. Keeping hope alive for 2017 though! In the meantime, there may be a couple days skipped this week as I might not have enough new music to share. So please bear with me if that happens. Now to get this week started, don’t miss downloads in this set from Big Wave Riders, LEO, Polecat and Soonbe. Pick Your Poison: Thursday 3-3-16

Surprise! There’s a brand new Kendrick Lamar album in the world. Well, it’s a little difficult to call it an official album per se. The title is untitled unmastered. and it’s eight tracks that have no titles and have not been properly mastered. In a sense, you could say these are outtakes and scraps that haven’t found a place on any of Kendrick’s albums up until this point. Each untitled track has a date associated with it, typically from 2013 or 2014, implying that’s when they were recorded. Kendrick’s label Top Dawg Entertainment apparently decided to release these cuts after Lebron James asked them to do so. Let’s thank him for this gift. I’ve only heard a few tracks so far, but they’re as solid as you might expect despite their context. Kendrick is the most talented rapper working today, and he hasn’t really had a bad release yet. So I strongly encourage you to check it out. Only available on Spotify for the time being, so head over there for a listen. Of course there’s plenty of other types of songs and artists for you to check out as part of today’s Pick Your Poison. That includes downloads from Crow’s Feet, Errant Boy, Kinder Than Wolves and Prince Rama. In the Soundcloud section after the jump, stream tracks from Azealia Banks, Beyond the Wizards Sleeve, Gallant, Howard, Into It. Over It., Jack Garratt (ft.
