Sometimes the most fascinating songs are the ones you discover almost completely by accident. A fair amount of today’s Pick Your Poison might seem unfamiliar at first glance, but I encourage you to dive in anyways, because there are plenty of gems to be found. For example, the psychedelic funk of Jonti might hook your interest. The otherwise odd pairing of Katy Perry and Hot Chip turns out to be oddly inspired, as the band remixed the pop star’s latest single. There’s a fascinating reggae/R&B/funk mixture that Mansionz bring to the table that’s addictive and worth your time. Charli XCX lends her voice and star-boosting power to Mura Masa’s new track that’s a buyoant slice of off-kilter pop. Other notable cuts in this set come from Allday (ft. Japanese Wallpaper), Brodinski (ft. Hoodrich Pablo Juan), Katie Buchanan, Shy Glizzy (ft. 21 Savage), Smino, Tommy Genesis, WALL and more.

Jonti – Scrood (ft. Steve Lacy)

Katy Perry – Chained to the Rhythm (Hot Chip Remix)

Mansionz – Dennis Rodman

Mura Masa – 1 Night (ft. Charli XCX)

To be honest, I’m really excited and happy to be able to share so much good new music with all of you on a regular basis. There’s so much out there to enjoy, so I hope you’re paying close attention! Case in point, this set of music today. The Gold Setting are back with another bouncy and soulful track from their forthcomning record. Guided By Voices continue their streak of nonstop recording with another ramshackle slice of messy garage rock. Get mesmerized by Lone’s latest club-ready track. Broken Social Scene’s Lisa Lobsinger guests on a rather addictive new dance track from Smalltown DJs, and TOPS find their mid-70s groove with an incredible first single from a future album. Alao included in this set after the jump are tracks from Ian William Craig, Jamie Isaac (ft. Salomon Faye), Jayceeoh & Lit Lords, Lovely Bad Things, Mary Lattimore, Reptaliens and Simian Ghost.

The Gold Setting – Video Star

Your mid-week selection of new music streams features some killer tracks, as usual. The glitchy blips of Chrome Sparks’ latest will get you moving. The return of Broken Social Scene this year also marks the long-awaited return of their Canadian associates Do Make Say Think, who deliver a 12-minute opus that I believe is technically two separate tracks blended into one. The Octopus Project get loud with a racing and bracing new cut. Fans of dancehall pop effortlessly blended with reggae will have a lot to love in a fresh Salt Cathedral track. Woods stay strong with an important message song wrapped in their uniquely bouncy psych-folk style. That Young Galaxy track is a smooth slice of synth pop too. Others in this set after the jump include Alex Napping, Eric Copeland, Kaskade (ft. Laura Lamn & S2_Cool), Talay, Young M.A. and more!

Rabbit Rabbit everybody. Wishing you lots of luck for the next month. Listening to these new songs will surely help get March off to a great start, I’m sure of it. The Districts return with something fiery and fun and anything but ordinary, despite its title. Chicago’s own Kweku Collins continues to show incredible potential on his new track, which will hopefully boost his profile. Land of Talk return with their first new song in seven years, and they feel more vital and relevant than ever. Minus the Bear continue their teasing of a smart new album with another track from it. If the dreamy highs of You’ll Never Get to Heaven’s new song don’t turn you on to that great band, well, you’re missing out. Other artists in this set include Eric Bellinger (ft. Wale), Jamie Isaac (ft. Sporting Life & Allan Kingdom), Kate NV, Lil Uzi Vert, Pile, Slaptop (ft. Rozzi Crane) and Taylor Bennett (ft. Chance the Rapper & Jeremih). Wow, thinking about it just now, there’s not a single dud in this collection. Listen to them all!

We’ve made it to the end of Fabruary. Seems kind of like the year just started, doesn’t it? Or is it the opposite, given that time moves extra slowly in Drumpf’s America? No matter your feelings, I for one am grateful to put this past month behind us and am looking forward to the inevitable thaw that comes with spring. Of course there were a handful of 60+ degree days in Chicago during February, so the general lack of ice and snow has made this one of the most bearable winters ever. Thanks(?) climate change. But enough about that, let’s get to the music. There’s a lighthearted new single from The Boy Least Likely To, if you’re into their particular brand of ultra-twee. Yet another new Sondre Lerche song is also here to delight as it’s another reminder he’s got a new album on the way. And Four Tet managed to get his hands on a Todd Terje track, which pairs the two artists’ distinctive styles together in one freeform and jazzy remix. Other artists in this set include Azealia Banks x Lunice, Catholic Action, Doug Tuttle, HAWAI, Kiefer, No Vacation, POWERS and Tall Juan.

The Boy Least Likely To – Follow Your Heart Somewhere

Sondre Lerche – I Know Something That’s Gonna Break Your Heart

Todd Terje – Jungelknugen (Four Tet Remix)

Here’s some great news to start the week: The Pitchfork Music Festival returns this summer from July 14-16 at Union Park in Chicago! They’ve just announced three incredible headliners, which are LCD Soundsystem, A Tribe Called Quest and Solange. The rest of the lineup will apparently be announced in the coming weeks. It’s definitely a great start though, and if you want to buy tickets (single day or three day), they’re on sale now. Beyond standard tickets they’re also offering a new Pitchfork +PLUS option, which is basically VIP access throughout the festival grounds, including special food vendors, bars and seating areas (among other things). That’ll cost you $365, versus a standard $175 3-day pass or a $75 single day pass. Anyways, Pitchfork is my absolute favorite music festival to attend every single year, and if you’ve never been I strongly recommend picking up a ticket. More details as they trickle out! Let’s dive into today’s Pick Your Poison, which includes downloads from Cousin Dan, The Head, Secret Science and Seven Day Sleep. In the Soundcloud section after the jump, stream songs from Amber Arcades, Alex Napping, Blanck Mass, Bonny Doon, David Bazan, The Cairo Gang, CLOSENESS, Jay Som, Jenn Grant, Sango, Uppermost and You’ll Never Get to Heaven.

Well this is a delightful edition of Pick Your Poison to wrap up the week. Bleached are back with a new EP, and the song below is one of their best and most addictive to date. Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy continues to mine the folk genre for buried treasure, this time quite literally. DJ Premier & Miguel team up for another solid slice of smoothly textured R&B, but filtered with a more electronic flavor. SOFI TUKKER are an up-and-coming electro-funk duo that are worth checking out. And Chicago heroes Twin Peaks have a live album coming out, so you can get a taste of that in this set too. Other tracks come from Fauvely, Jaye Bartell (ft. Angel Olsen), Joakim, Moor Mother (ft. Geng), Odd Couple, Steve Lacy, and The Wooden Sky.

As they say in Ghostbusters, don’t cross the streams. There are some good ones in today’s Pick Your Poison. Kingdom brings some gloriously slinky R&B melodies to match SZA’s effortless delivery. No Joy continue to prove that there’s still plenty of creativity to be wrung from the shoegaze genre. The Octopus Project continues their unique take on experimental electro-rock in the best sort of way, and Sondre Lerche proves that just because a song is about violence doesn’t mean it has to sound like it. Other tracks in this set come from ARY, Emma Jensen, Jamie Isaac (ft. Wiki & Denzel Curry), The Magician & Julian Perretta, Magic Island, Mr. Mitch (ft. P Money) and The Poison Arrows.

Kingdom – What Is Love (ft. SZA)
