There’s a certain ramshackle, bass guitar-heavy groove that Art School Jocks’ “Catdog” sinks into that’s remarkably compelling and worth giving a listen to if you haven’t done so already. I’ve also got great admiration for the visceral grind that powers Cayetana’s latest single “Bus Ticket”. It reminds me of ’90s Alanis Morissette, but a bit heavier. If you like alt-J but wish that band were a little more energetic and louder and maybe had a splash of Dinosaur Jr. thrown in, try CHILDCARE’s new one on for size. The effervescent Briana Marela lends her voice to the gorgeous harmonies on Hoop’s track “Baseboards,” which injects a whole lot of charm into the simple synth-and-drums melody. Other artists in today’s Pick Your Poison include Allday (ft. Mallrat), Brothertiger (covering Tears for Fears), Dasher, Mikey Young, NoMBe (ft. New Mystics), Pr0files, Sofi de la Torre (ft. Taylor Bennett), and Umm.
