Tragedy has struck, and its name is R.E.M. More specifically, I mean the break up of R.E.M. While I am saddened to hear that the guys feel like they can’t or shouldn’t work together as a band anymore, we did get 31 years worth of great music, even if there were a few misfires along the way. What disappoints me most is hearing the break up talk from people that obviously aren’t big R.E.M. fans, because they first comment that it’s tragic, then follow it up by saying something like, “it’s not like they’ve done much in the last 10 years”. First and foremost that’s an ignorant statement, especially since their last two albums, “Accelerate” and “Collapse Into Now” were at the very least better than half of the rest of their catalogue. The real R.E.M. fans know that the band appeared to have plenty of life still left in them. Apparently they felt otherwise. So I wish Michael Stipe, Mike Mills and Peter Buck all the best in their future endeavors, and look forward to their reunion tour in 2016. Let’s do Pick Your Poison today.
