A new solo tune from Big Thief’s Buck Meek kicks off today’s edition of Pick Your Poison. His self-titled debut album comes out in 10 days, and you can hear the opening track below. It’s about auto mechanics and the bond between men and machines. Despite calling the track “Bad Decisions”, it would be a good decision for you to check out the latest single from Chromeo. You can also get another taste of the upcoming album from Chicago’s own Deeper, who have really been making some waves both locally and internationally these last couple months. Stroll beyond the jump for more music from artists including Dear Nora, East & Atlas, The Hunna, Jack Larsen, Paris Youth Foundation, Thyla, Value Void, and more!

The new illuminati hotties record is out in a couple weeks, and if you’re not already aware of this up-and-coming band, now’s as good of a time as any to familiarize yourself with their particular brand of indie rock. Same goes for Peach Kelli Pop, who have been around for awhile and make delightfully lo-fi garage rock that sticks in your head for days. Part of me believes that River Whyless are about to become the next Lumineers or Dawes, so if you’re a fan of well-crafted folk with strong vocal harmonies, definitely give their latest song a spin. After the jump, you’ll find more tracks from artists, including Gladius James (ft. Wiz Khalifa), Gui Boratto, Juliana Daugherty, Kagoule, Katie Von Schleicher, Pile, San Mei, Welshly Arms, and White China.

Hope your vinyl collection is flush with whatever you picked up this weekend for Record Store Day. Personally, I slept in and then stopped by the very tiny shop a few blocks from my apartment to browse over whatever they had left. There wasn’t much available (they purposely didn’t order a lot because they’re so small), but I still managed to snag a copy of the original 2011 version of Car Seat Headrest’s Twin Fantasy, which was re-recorded and released with some different arrangements and lyrics earlier this year. Also, even though it wasn’t s Record Store Day exclusive, I finally purchased a copy of INXS’ classic album Kick in celebration of its 30th anniversary. Feel free to share what you picked up in the comments. As for today’s Pick Your Poison, I’m happy to recommend downloads in this set from In Sonitus Lux, Laura Jane Grace (Against Me!), Phosphenes, and Youth in a Roman Field. In the Soundcloud section after the jump, stream songs from Amanda Tenfjord, Anki & October Child (ft. NEAVV), Eleanor Friedberger, Lemaitre (ft. Don’t forget that Record Store Day is this Saturday! Make sure to stop in at your local, independent vinyl retailer and buy something. There are plenty of exclusives available too, which should make the trip worth it. Hit up recordstoreday.com for full details. Some days it’s particularly tough to decide which songs to feature in any given day’s collection of tracks. Today is one of those days. Need to include at least one local artist if possible, so I’d encourage you to give Chicago’s own Deeper a shot. Their debut album will be out next month, but you can get a taste of their intricate, post-punk(-ish) sound below. Hundred Waters tend to specialize in beautiful music with a pop twist, and while their latest song might not be their catchiest, the piano ballad “Mushroom Cloud” still manages to stun. Then there’s Omni’s new one, which falls perfectly in line with their intricate and lo-fi guitar work. Sail on past the jump if you’ve got any interest in hearing more music from artists such as AVEC, CHILDCARE, Margaux Avril, RF Shannon, Sarah Mary Chadwick, Sharda, Sugar Candy Mountain, Taleen Kali, and Ukiyo (ft. Chimes).

Deeper – Pavement

Hundred Waters – Mushroom Cloud

Omni – Confessional

There are a few real delights in today’s edition of Pick Your Poison. That particularly goes for fans of synth-infused pop music. The latest French language single from Anemone is bright as a summer’s day with a hook that’ll stick with you even if you don’t understand the language. There’s also a new one from Chad Valley, which keeps the upbeat vibe going with a sparkling slice of dance pop. And while the latest song from Frog Eyes’ final record might not have the energy of the other two, it still manages to harness a shimmering beauty that few bands are able to do better. Just beyond the jump, you’ll find plenty more music from names such as Kell Kellum, Kutiman, Lotic, LP Giobbi, Nytrix, Richard Edwards, Route 8, Sons Of An Illustrious Father, and more!

Anemone – Bout De Toi

Chad Valley – See-Through

Frog Eyes – Pay for Fire

Let’s get right down to business, because it’s Tuesday and ain’t nobody got time for anything else. Some rather diverse highlights in today’s Pick Your Poison, depending on your personal preferences. Love a good and catchy pop song? Bossie has you covered. If hip hop is more your jam, the team-up of Freddie Gibbs, G Perico, and Mozzy is rather inspired. Let’s not forget about rock and roll though, because a new Tokyo Police Club song is reason enough to celebrate. Keep going past the jump for more music from audiobooks, Bearson (ft. Ashe), Bluestaeb, Chris Robinson Brotherhood (covering Gram Parsons), Howie Lee, Katuchat, Kotek, L8LOOMER (ft. Banoffee), and The Magic Lantern.

We’re halfway through April, and honestly I just can’t wait for May when that whole spring-to-summer transition finally starts to kick in. Call me skeptical if you must, but I’m in the habit of not trusting cover songs. In my mind, it’s more often than not an attempt to gain success and attention by doing a pale imitation of someone else’s work. That said, if you manage to put your own spin on a song and reveal something new about it, or are an already well-known name and choose to cover a song by a relatively unknown artist, it can be a worthwhile thing. Carla dal Forno pulls off the rare quality cover in taking on Lana del Rey’s “Summertime Sadness”, which you can stream below. Also worth a listen in this set are tracks from Jesse Jo Stark and Young Thug (ft. Nicki Minaj). After the jump you’ll also find more music from ALYUSHA, boerd, Deem Spencer, Ekali & Medasin (ft. Elohim), Madison Ryann Ward, Mr Gabriel, Tanners, Upstairs Open, and Wax Chattels.

I love it when that happens, even if it takes a good 45 minute chunk out of your day to listen through it all. The highlights include fresh tracks from incredible artists like Empress Of, Jenny Hval, and Omni. But don’t hold back from moving beyond the jump, because there’s plenty more greatness thanks to Bent Denim, Birds of Chicago, Cautious Clay, The FMs, Kreggo, Michael Rault, Mothica, Powers Pleasant x Joey Bada$$ x A$AP Ferg, and Washed Out.
